Irelia vs Garen Top Matchup

Irelia Top wins 47.7% of 2,410 Low Elo games against Garen Top, -0.7 points vs expected, 2-patch window 26.19-26.20.

Researched on LoL patch 26.20. Tips are written to hold at any rank; stats come from Low Elo ranked games up to patch 26.20.

How to play as Irelia

Build passive stacks before committing to a longer fight, and use Defiant Dance(W) to reduce Garen's burst; avoid taking a full trade when your passive stacks are low.

Defiant Dance(W) reduces incoming damage while it is charging, so Irelia can soften the hit from Garen's Decisive Strike(Q) during a trade.

Irelia builds Ionian Fervor(P) stacks by hitting with abilities and gains attack speed at full stacks, making an extended fight more dangerous than a brief exchange.

How to play as Garen

Use Courage(W) as Irelia commits to a stun or burst, and avoid extending the trade while she has full Ionian Fervor(P) stacks.
