Garen vs Fizz Mid Matchup

Garen Mid wins 51.6% of 479 Low Elo games against Fizz Mid, +0.5 points vs expected, 2-patch window 26.19-26.20.

Researched on LoL patch 26.20. Tips are written to hold at any rank; stats come from Low Elo ranked games up to patch 26.20.

How to play as Garen

Use Decisive Strike(Q) to make Fizz spend Playful/Trickster(E), then commit after he lands. Time Courage(W) for the shark impact to blunt the rest of Fizz's burst.

Garen mains report using Decisive Strike(Q) to draw out Fizz's Playful/Trickster(E), then punishing Fizz after he lands.

Courage(W) gives Garen a shield and damage reduction against Fizz's burst; Garen players recommend timing it as Chum the Waters(R) is about to hit so it covers more of the combo.

How to play as Fizz

When Garen activates Decisive Strike(Q), create distance until its speed-up is gone instead of spending your jump immediately; look for a short trade once his Q is down.
