Malzahar vs Sion Mid Matchup

Malzahar Mid wins 45.2% of 1,049 Low Elo games against Sion Mid, -3.7 points vs expected, 2-patch window 26.19-26.20.

Researched on LoL patch 26.20. Tips are written to hold at any rank; stats come from Low Elo ranked games up to patch 26.20.

How to play as Malzahar

Save Call of the Void(Q) for Sion's Decimating Smash(Q) channel when he is charging it to hit the wave; canceling the charge denies that release.

Treat the lane as wave and tower defense instead of trying to solo kill Sion: match his push where you can and stop him taking structures for free. (Unverified: no source confirms this note.)

Call of the Void(Q)'s silence can interrupt Sion's charged Decimating Smash(Q).

How to play as Sion

When it is safe, clear Malzahar's Voidlings for the permanent health stacks; Malzahar players identify them as free health for Sion.

Sion gains permanent maximum health from kills, so killing Malzahar's Voidlings(W) adds stacks for him.
