Pressure Malzahar early and use Mistral Bolt(Q) to clear his voidlings; poke him with an auto or spell to break Void Shift(P) before committing. If you need to stop Nether Grasp(R), save your fear for after that passive is down.

Vex's area spells can damage Malzahar and clear Voidlings(W), while Malzahar's Void Shift(P) can block Vex's fear if it is still active when the fear would apply.

Doom 'n Gloom(P) fears with an empowered ability and can interrupt Malzahar's Nether Grasp(R) if Void Shift(P) is down and the fear lands during the channel.
